Ryan's Story

Ryan Lee Newcomer, 65, died at 11:42 a.m. Wednesday, April 12, 2017, at Goshen Hospital from complications of congestive heart failure. He was born May 29, 1951, in Goshen, to Lowell Max and Patricia (Replogle) Newcomer. On July 5, 1997, in Elkhart, he married Valerie Troyer. She survives.
Survivors in addition to his wife are his children, Deb Newcomer of Lafayette, Tonya Newcomer-Derr, Craig (Cori) Newcomer and Heather (David) Burke, all of Goshen, and Amanda Pederson of Elkhart; nine grandchildren, Haley, Brandi, Kelly, Dakota, David, Mandi, Tripp, Carter and Kayden; a great-granddaughter, Mary Jane; his siblings, Sue (Doug) Purdue of Goshen, Wayne (Jackie) Newcomer of Lafayette, and Dale (Phyllis) Newcomer of New Paris; a sister-in-law, Deloris Newcomer of Nappanee; and his first wife, Niketa Berkey.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Tracy Newcomer.
Ryan was on staff at the Elkhart County Juvenile Detention Center and had worked for 28 years in the sales department at Jayco. He served on the Elkhart County Sherriff's Department as a reserve officer for 23 years, serving as Chief of Reserves for many years. He served in the Army Airborne Division as a mechanic in Germany. He was active with the Elkhart County 4-H Shooting Sports, attended River Oaks Community Church and was an avid fisherman and outdoorsman. He enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and other extended family.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 17, at Miller-Stewart Funeral Home, Middlebury, and from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 18, at Union Center Church, Nappanee.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 19, also at the church. Services will be conducted by the Rev. Dick Matteson. Burial will be in Union Center Cemetery, Nappanee.
