Richard "Rick"'s Story
Richard "Rick" Thornton, 66, Bristol, died at 11:45 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 21, at Valley View Healthcare Center, Elkhart.
He was born March 29, 1951, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, to Beatrice Mae (Ryer) Jennings.
He married Kathy (Yoder) Thornton, July 26, 1980.
Surviving are his wife, Kathy, Bristol; son, Dan Thornton, Bristol; daughters, Lori (Tim) McDonald, Bristol, Casandra Thornton, Elkhart; grandchildren, David Thornton, Keegan Howard, Ethan and Erin McDonald and Kayden Barnes; siblings, Roberta Cherry, Grand Rapids, Michigan, Ruth Haines, Warsaw, Rosemary Willis, Elkhart, Russell Thornton, Middlebury, and Karen Martin, Lakeland, Florida.
Preceding him in death is his mother, Beatrice Jennings; son, Jeremiah Lynn Thornton; and siblings, Robert and Ronald Thornton.
Rick was a veteran of the U.S. Army who served in Vietnam, discharged in 1976.
He was a lifetime member of the DAV, Chapter 19, American Legion Post 143 and the George Washington Masonic Lodge 325, Bristol.
He formerly worked at Accra Pac and was a member of the Bristol United Methodist Church.
There will be a Masonic service at 1:30 p.m. Feb. 4, followed by a celebration of life service, all at Bristol United Methodist Church, 201 S. Division St., Bristol. Pastor Gary Lewis will officiate.
