R. Keith's Story
R. Keith Frederick, 89, Middlebury, died at midnight Monday, Oct. 23, at his residence.
He was born Jan. 3, 1928, in Sherwood, Michigan, to Charles and Mary (Ormsby) Frederick.
Jan. 18, 1948, in Middlebury, he married Gretchen H. Franz. She died Nov. 17, 2004.
Surviving are three daughters, Julie (Robert) Blair and Mari Bowers, both of Middlebury, Amy (Gerald) Miller, Goshen; three sons, Dan (Cindi) Frederick, Middlebury, Mark (partner Mike Baker) Frederick, Terre Haute, retired U.S. Navy Chief Robert (Leslie) Frederick, Japan; daughter-in-law, Lucinda Flodin-Frederick, Hampton, Tennessee; 17 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; two sons, Michael and Dennis Frederick; son-in-law, Dwight Bowers; three sisters, Dorothy Harrison, Gladys Johnson and Ruth Johnson; three brothers, Arnold, Donald and Joe Frederick.
Keith was a member of First United Methodist Church, Middlebury, a World War II veteran, who served from 1946-1947. He worked for GTE for 30 years.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 210 where he was a former post commander and he was a member of the Divertin Club.
He enjoyed bowling, flower gardening, reading, his pets and spending time with his family and friends.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday Oct. 27, at First United Methodist Church, 301 S. Main St., Middlebury, where funeral services will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 28. Services will be conducted by Pastor Ron Russell.
Burial with military honors by American Legion Post 210 will be at Grace Lawn Cemetery, Middlebury.
Memorials may be given to the First United Methodist Church building fund or the Elkhart County Humane Society.
