Phebe Burkey, 96, of, Goshen, formerly of Middlebury, died at 10:15 am, on Thursday, Oct. 12, at the Maples at Waterford Crossing, where she had resided the last two years.
She was born on Nov. 18, 1920, in Milford, NE, to Chris and Anna (Rediger) Stauffer.
On July 11, 1943, in Milford, Nebraska, she married Warren Burkey; he died Jan. 1, 1998. Surviving are two daughters, Jolene (Lester) Yoder and Reva (Lamar) Schrock both of Middlebury; eight grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sister, Kathryn Stauffer; four brothers, Harry, Sterling, Ezra and Edward Stauffer.
Phebe was a homemaker and a member of Griner Mennonite Church. She enjoyed embroidering, reading and loved her family. She had the gift of caring and listening to people and taught Sunday school for many years. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. on Saturday Oct. 14, and one hour prior to the 2:00 pm funeral service on Sunday Oct. 15, all at Griner Mennonite Church, Middlebury. Services will be conducted by Pastors Robert Riegsecker, DeWayne Yoder and Jim Eigsti. Burial will be in Griner Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Gospel Echoes.
