Nevin's Story

Nevin R. Albrecht, 91, Goshen, died 8:45 a.m. Saturday, April 14, at Goshen Hospital.
He was born May 31, 1926, in Pigeon, Michigan to Emanuel and Katherine (Shetler) Albrecht. On Dec. 24, 1947, Nevin married Carolyn A. (Bontrager) Albrecht and she passed away on April 12, 2013.
Surviving are his daughters, Lola (Merrill) Gingerich, Milford, Sharlene (Rev. Donald) Patterson, Kalona, Iowa, sons, Jerry (Barbara) Albrecht, Goshen, Dr. Lynn (Kathy) Albrecht, Edwardsburg, Michigan; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and a brother, E.J. (Alma) Albrecht Jr., Forest Grove, Oregon.
Preceding him in death are his parents, wife, Carolyn, an infant daughter in 1950, brothers, Roy and Erlis Albrecht, sisters, Norma and Verda Albrecht, and a grandson, Michael Patterson.
Nevin was a farmer, had a self-employed excavating and landscaping company, and was a machinery operator at Ira C. Mast Construction. He worked at MMA as a grounds supervisor and in maintenance. Nevin also worked maintenance at AMBS. He was interested in gardening and growing flowers, especially dahlias. He was known as The Plant Man and was a member of the American Dahlia Society. He also enjoyed fishing. Nevin was a member of the Belmont Mennonite Church, Elkhart, where he volunteered in the construction of the current church building.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, April 17, at Rieth-Rohrer-Ehret Funeral Home, 311 S. Main St., Goshen, and one hour prior to the 10 a.m. service Wednesday, April 18, at Belmont Mennonite Church, 925 Oxford St., Elkhart. Pastor Larry Rohrer and Pastor Mandy Yoder will officiate. Burial will be at Yellow Creek Cemetery at a later date.
