Merrill J. Yoder, 101, Mishawaka, formerly of Wakarusa, died 12 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 9, at the home of his daughter in Mishawaka.
He was born Jan. 4, 1916, in Elkhart County, to Harvey and Eliza (Newcomer) Yoder.
He married Fay Marie (Wenger) Yoder Sept. 5, 1937, in Fort Wayne; she died Feb. 20, 2012.
Surviving are a daughter, Louise (Ken) Leach, Mishawaka; sons, Roger (Jan) Yoder, Black Canyon City, Arizona, and Dennis (Shirley) Yoder, Wakarusa; 15 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Miriam Wenger, Goshen.
Preceding him in death are his parents; wife; foster daughter, Faye Hackman; grandson, Shane Yoder; sister, Emma Hart; and brothers, Paul, Ivan, Earl, Carl and David Yoder.
Merrill was a 1934 graduate of Wakarusa High School and a member of Olive Mennonite Church. He was retired from the construction field.
Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 12, and one hour prior to the 10 a.m. service Monday, Nov. 13, all at Olive Mennonite Church, 61081 C.R. 3, Elkhart. Burial will follow at Olive (East) Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Olive Mennonite Church for Missions.
