Mary K. Swihart

June 27, 1921 - August 26, 2018

Mary K. Swihart Mary K. Swihart, with family at her side, walked into the arms of her Savior, Aug. 26 at age 97.
Mary was born in Goshen, Indiana, June 27, 1921, to Vernon and Mae (Inbody) Sherman. She had three older brothers, Harold, Gerald and Lester, who preceded her in death.
A memorial service to honor and celebrate her life will take place Saturday Oct. 13, at 11 a.m. at Montrose Christian Church, 2351 Sunnyside Road, Montrose. Burial will be at a later date in Goshen.
She married Robert Carl Swihart Oct. 17, 1942. He passed away Feb. 17, 1975.
Mary was a homemaker and co-partner in her husband's various business adventures. After his death, she busied herself in the community. She volunteered many years for the Montrose Pavilion's Senior Citizens Meals. She also enjoyed her time in the arts and crafts at Montrose Memorial Hospital. Her peanut butter pies were so popular they were usually spoken for by staff before their bake sale fundraisers even began. Her daughter, Sherry, often recruited her to help with various projects in her second-grade classroom at Northside Elementary. She also made herself available to anyone who needed a helping hand.
Surviving family members include her daughters, Sherry Jones (Edwin), Vicki Long (Randy), and Judd, and wife, Ruth. The oldest son, Rex, and his wife, Diana, both preceded her in death.
Mary loved her grandchildren, Bob (Laura) and Dan, Little Rock, Arkansas, Glen (Kathy), Littleton, Mike (Chelsee), Phelan, California, Bruce (Megan), Baltimore, Maryland, and Paula (Daniel), the Netherlands. A grandson, Darrell, preceded her in death.
She also leaves 13 great-grandchildren, Kaylie, Karlee, Jackson, Jeremiah (Wendy), Jacob, Caleb, Lucy, Evy, Emmie, Zipporah, Arrow and Annabelle, along with two great-great- grandchildren, Amber and Ryan.
We children want to thank all of Mom's extended family and many friends for the wonderful love, caring and warm friendships shown to her throughout the many years. We request that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to one of the following: Hope West Hospice, All Points Transit or Montrose Christian Church.
