Mary Ellen (Martin) Cassis, 87, formerly of Goshen, died Friday, April 7, at her home in Spanish Fort, Alabama.
The daughter of the late Oswald P. and Marie (Neterer) Martin, she was born Nov. 3, 1929, in Goshen. In 1952, she married E. George Cassis, in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He died in 2010.
She was a 1947 graduate of Goshen High School and was also a member of Tri Kappa Sorority and the Order of Rainbow Girls. She attended Ward-Belmont College in Nashville, Tennessee, and graduated in 1951 from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.
Mary has resided in Indianapolis, Detroit, Kirkwood, St. Louis, Diamond Head, and in recent years, at Westminster Village, Spanish Fort, Alabama.
Mary was a longtime member of the D.A.R. and active in Republican politics. She was formerly a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Goshen.
Among the survivors are cousins, Betty (Don) Hoffman, Goshen, Carol Leidner, Wareham, Massachusetts, and Brenda (Randall) Johnson, Elkhart.
A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 8, at Violett Cemetery, Goshen. Pastor Daniel Forehand of Grace Lutheran Church, Elkhart, will preside.
