Marianne's Story

Marianne Metzler, 87, died Monday at Greencroft Goshen Health Care.
She was born Feb. 23, 1930, in Goshen, to George and Beulah Garner.
On Jan. 8, 1946, she married Donald L. Metzler in Gulfport, Mississippi. He died Sept. 29, 1996.
She is survived by five children, Donna Kay (Joe) Hibschman, Syracuse, Sharon (Charles) Adcock, Lagro, Richard E. Metzler, Goshen, Georgia Ann (Marc) Gouin, Middlebury, and Cathy Sue (Douglas) Wehrwein, Englewood, Colorado; 21 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and 24 great-great-grandchildren.
Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, James and Randall Metzler; brother, George Garner; and sister, Arliss Sheler.
A nursing graduate of Southwestern Michigan University, she worked as a registered nurse at Goshen Hospital. She also worked for Miles Laboratories and Ronald Sherck, DDS.
She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Elkhart, a queen mother of the Greencroft Red Hat Society and enjoyed the group of retired nurses she would meet with regularly.
Visitation will be Thursday, Feb. 22, from 2 to 8 p.m. at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, Goshen. There will also be one hour of visitation prior to the 10 a.m. funeral service Friday, Feb. 23, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 3415 Pleasant Plain Ave., Elkhart. Bishop Chester Gibson will officiate.
Burial will follow at Olive West Cemetery, Elkhart.
