Lydia W. Shirk, 76, 21774 C.R. 38, Goshen, entered into rest, Thursday March 16. She had been ill with cancer since June 2016.
She was born Feb. 16, 1941 in Ephrata, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, to Aaron S. and Mabel G. Weaver.
On Feb. 16, 1941, she married Paul G. Shirk, and together they shared 56 years of marriage. Lydia and her husband lived in Goshen since 1990. She was a member of the Wisler Mennonite Church. Lydia was well known for her love of cooking. Her specialties were pies and cinnamon rolls.
Lydia is survived by her husband, Paul, and two sons, Paul W. Shirk Jr. and wife, Rosene, and Larry W. Shirk and wife, Esther Mae, both of Goshen. They had seven grandchildren, Lisa and husband, Arnold Zimmerman, Carpenter, Wyoming, Paul Gene Shirk and wife, Roeleta, Jason Shirk and wife, Samantha, Brian Shirk and wife, Elizabeth, Lonita and husband, Derek Weaver, Leon Shirk and Stephanie Shirk, all of Goshen. They have nine great-grandchildren, Kiona Zimmerman, Kylee Zimmerman, Dakota Zimmerman, Cody Zimmerman, Kyle Shirk, Morgan Shirk, Connor Shirk, Lydia Shirk and Ariel Weaver.
Also surviving are four sisters, Irene (Mrs. Kenneth Groff), Ephrata, Pennsylvania, Sadie Sensing (the late Earl), Kirkwood, Pennsylvania, Mabel (Mrs. Leon Martin), East Earl, Pennsylvania, and Linda Brubaker, Leola, Pennsylvania; and seven brothers, Ivan and wife, Anna, Versailles, Missouri, Aaron and wife, Elizabeth, Ephrata, Pennsylvania, Raymond and wife, Janet, New Holland, Pennsylvania, Elvin and wife, Lind, Denver, Pennsylvania, Melvin and wife, Erma, Newburg, Pennsylvania, Ervin and wife, Lois, Ephrata, Pennsylvania, and Paul and wife, Reba, Mansfield, Ohio.
Lydia was preceded in death by her parents; infant sister, Vera; brother, Lloyd Weaver; sister, Laura Nolt; infant sons, Nelson and Eugene and Raymond (10 years), all born in Ephrata, Pennsylvania.
Family and friends may call Sunday, March 19, from 4 to 8 p.m. and Monday, March 20, 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Ramer Mennonite Youth Center, 24647 C.R. 44, Nappanee.
Funeral services will begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 21, at Yellow Creek Wisler Mennonite Church, Goshen. The home ministers of the church will officiate.
Burial will take place at the church cemetery.
