Lorraine F.'s Story
Lorraine F. Smith, 87, Fort Wayne, formerly of Goshen, died Friday, Feb. 23, at Coventry Meadows Assisted Living, where she had been since 2007.
She was born April 27, 1930, in Flint, Michigan, to Pearl M. and Ruth (Francis) Chapman.
On Sept. 2, 1950, she married Donald L. Smith in Flint. He died April 22, 2009.
Survivors include two daughters, Karen (Harry) Metzger, Bronson, Michigan, and Bonita (Dr. Albert) Cornelius, Grand Rapids, Michigan; two sons, Donald (Susan) Smith Jr. and Dr. David (Carolyn) Smith, both of Fort Wayne; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Phyllis (Walter) McLavy, Mount Morris, Michigan.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; son, Donald David Smith; and brother, Lawrence Chapman.
Mrs. Smith earned her bachelor's degree from Goshen College and her master's degree from IUSB. She taught second grade at Chamberlain Elementary School, Goshen, from 1967 to 1993.
She was an active member of Brenneman Memorial Missionary Church where she taught Sunday school and vacation Bible school.
Friends may call Saturday, March 3, from 11 a.m. until the 1 p.m. funeral service at Brenneman Memorial Missionary Church, Goshen. Pastor Harold Knight will officiate.
Burial will follow at Violett Cemetery.
