Heaven received a new angel Monday, Dec. 25, with the passing of James C. "Jim" Stout, 81, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Mishawaka.
Jim was born July 3, 1936 in New Castle, to the late Kenneth and Katherine (Fisher) Stout. He had three siblings, Bob, Sharon and Judith; all are deceased.
On Aug. 3, 1962, he married the love of his life, Connie Goudy. They have two daughters, Missy (Scott) Trimble-Craver and Wendy (PJ) Bernth; and four grandchildren, Austin, Alex, Ashton Bernth and Aaron Craver.
Jim graduated from Ball State University, where he was on the golf team and later was a commercial lender at GMAC. Jim then went into banking and earned his banking degree in Madison, Wisconsin. He was a commercial lending officer and vice president at First National Bank of Elkhart and KeyBank and retired from Lake City Bank in 2002.
Jim was an avid golfer who participated in various city golf tournaments. He loved fishing and was an avid Notre Dame fan. He passed his love of golfing and fishing onto his beloved grandsons, whom he loved dearly.
Jim attended First Brethren Church, Elkhart, and was an active member of the Elkhart Noon Kiwanis Club and volunteered for many local organizations. He was also a former member of the Christiana Creek Country Club and Elcona Country Club.
Jim was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend to so many, he will be missed dearly.
Visitation for Jim will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 28, at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart.
Services celebrating Jim's life will take place at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 29, also at Billings Funeral Home with visitation one hour prior to services. Pastor Dan Herendeen will officiate.
Private burial will follow at West Goshen Cemetery.
