James "Jim" L. Miller, 80, Middlebury, died Saturday, Feb. 23, at his residence in Palmetto, Florida.
He was born Nov. 25, 1938, in St. Joseph County, to Wilford and Ruth (Mummert) Miller.
On April 3, 1960, in Elkhart County, he married Janet Ulrich, who survives.
In addition to his wife, surviving are daughter, Julie (Kevin) Gruver, Goshen; son, Jerry (Juanita) Miller, Middlebury; five grandchildren, Kristi Acord, Jimmy Gaskill, Kelly Schrock, Rebecca Miller and Tim (Ashley) Clark; five great-grandchildren, Holli and Tyler Acord, Chandler Naquin, Russell Gaskill and Koltyn Clark.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, David Miller.
Jim was a caring and loving husband who always put his wife and family first. He was a very selfless, kind and patient man. He cherished his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was a member of West Goshen Church of the Brethren, Middlebury Fire Department for 31 years, Goshen Iron Horsemen and American Legion Post 210. He served on the Middlebury Town Council for six years and had been serving on the Middlebury Township Advisory Board for many years.
Jim was an electrician at several local companies and was owner/operator of Jim's Shell Service in Middlebury. He retired from Middlebury Enterprises in April 2006.
He enjoyed camping, motorcycling, NASCAR, traveling and wintering in Palmetto. He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan.
The family would especially like to thank Dr. Donald Westerhausen, Dr. William Buckley, Dr. Amberly Burger, Dr. Wheeler of the Goshen Cancer Center and Dr. Wurtz of the Simon Cancer Center in Indianapolis.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday, March 1, prior to the 1:30 p.m. funeral service at Miller-Stewart Funeral Home, 1003 S. Main St., Middlebury. Services will be conducted by Pastor Norman Replogle.
Burial will be at Grace Lawn Cemetery, Middlebury.
Memorials may be given to Camp Alexander Mack or West Goshen Church of the Brethren.

Very sorry to hear of Jim's passing. Loved talking to him at the family reunions. He always had a smile, and was a classy person. My condolences to the family.

best dad ever!!! whenever things were not going good in my life or I got in trouble for something he would always say its ok tomorrow is a new day. that will always stick with me. we will just start new tomorrow. we could always talk about everything and did. what a wonderful man! what a wonderful dad! a dad to be proud of!
