Jacob Fry, 88, Shipshewana, died Tuesday, May 8, at Pepin Heart Institute, Tampa, Florida, following heart surgery the previous Friday.
He was born Dec. 30, 1929, in Haven, Kansas, to Noah J. and Mary (Bontrager) Fry.
On Dec. 8, 1956, at Emma Mennonite Church, he married Mary Ellen Bontrager, who survives.
In addition to his wife, surviving are three daughters, Geraldine (Daryl) Hershberger, Wolcottville, Cindy (Dale) Miller, Vicksburg, Michigan, and Jana Murdock, Goshen; two sons, Darin (Sheri) Fry, Pettisville, Ohio, and Doug (Beth) Fry, Howe; 15 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Joe and Ezra Fry; and sister, Sarah Miller.
Jake worked at different area RV trailer factories and also in the wholesale automotive business. He drove school bus for several years for Westview Schools and in retirement did Amish taxi work.
He enjoyed working with horses and was often heard saying, "nothing is impossible, some things just take a little longer."
Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday, May 14, at Marion Christian Fellowship Church, 5460 N. 450 West, Shipshewana. There also will be one hour of visitation prior to the 10 a.m. funeral service Tuesday, May 15, also at the church. Services will be conducted by Pastors Ron Roth, Char Roth and Joseph Raber.
Burial will be at Shore Cemetery, Shipshewana.
Memorials may be given to the church.
