Harold R. Bachman, 102, died Friday, Nov. 3, at Greencroft Healthcare, Goshen.
He was born Feb. 16, 1915 in Morton, Illinois, to Alvin and Mary Eigsti Bachman.
On Aug. 1, 1937, he married Elda Long. They lived in Sterling, Illinois, prior to moving to Goshen in 2004.
Harold owned and managed Bachman's Fashion Shoes in Sterling and served on numerous boards including Sterling Merchant's Association, United Way, YMCA, Salvation Army and Science Ridge Mennonite Church council. He also owned Bachman's Fashion Stables and enjoyed raising, showing and judging ponies for many years.
He is survived by sons Stanley (Virginia) Bachman, Peoria, Illinois, and Walter (Lynette) Bachman, Goshen; eight grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, a son, H. Sherwin Bachman, as well as siblings Leland, Richard, Earl and Ivan Bachman, Miriam Uhlrich, Florence Egli and Grace Schrock.
Visitation will be from noon to 12:45 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11, at Eighth Street Mennonite Church. A memorial service will follow at 1 p.m. at the church.
