Gordon V. Smith, 87, Goshen, died 5:15 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 5, at his residence. He was born Oct. 11, 1930, in Elkhart County, to Mark and Gladys (Losee) Smith.
He married Barbara (Schmidt) Smith on Sept. 15, 1957.
Surviving are his wife, Barbara; sons, David and Donald Smith, all of Goshen; grandsons, Travis and Zander Smith; granddaughters, Kennedy and Molly; and great-grandchildren, Mia, Marcie and Westly.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Wava Smith.
Gordon worked at Johnson Controls for 43 years and retired in 1996. His hobbies were collecting knives and working with wood in his workshop. Gordon served in the U.S. Army Ground Forces during the Korean Conflict and was discharged June 12, 1952. He received the Purple Heart and was a member of both the DAV and VFW. In addition to receiving the Purple Heart, he also received the Korean Service Medal, National Service Medal and Combat Infantryman Badge.
Visitation will be noon to 3 p.m. Friday, Nov. 10, with the service following at 3 p.m., all at Rieth-Rohrer-Ehret Funeral Home, 311 S. Main St., Goshen.
Pastor Robert O'Dell will officiate. Memorials may be directed to the Goshen Hospital Hospice.
