Gary W. Askew

Gary W. Askew, 65, ended his journey unexpectedly Tuesday, April 2, at Elkhart General Hospital, after a sudden illness.
He was born Jan. 23, 1954, in Florence, Alabama, to Homer and Lola (Young) Askew, who preceded him in death.
He is survived by his son, Nick Adam Askew, Indianapolis; brother, Eddie Leon (Toni) Askew, Goshen; sister, Stella A. Askew, Elkhart; former wife, Lori Hoisington, Holt, Michigan; many aunts, uncles and cousins; and his nieces and nephews who loved and adored their Uncle BooBoo.
Gary worked for Kroger in Goshen for 10 years as a utility clerk. He loved his family and was great with people because he had a heart of gold and was giving to others.
A 1972 graduate of Concord High School, he attended Goshen College and Michigan State University. While living in Lansing, Michigan, he worked for Safety Clean.
Gary enjoyed nature and photography, was a great chef and avid reader, and had chickens he was raising.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, April 6, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, Goshen, where a 1 p.m. funeral service will take place. Pastor Mike Swineheart, Grace Point Apostolic Church, Osceola, will officiate.
Burial will be at Violett Cemetery, Goshen.
Memorial contributions may be given to Elkhart County Parks Department.
Gary was a proud organ donor and gave his eyes so that others may read.

We just learned of Gary's short illness and death. We only knew him from his work at the Kroger store but we always found him friendly and helpful. He will be missed. So sorry for the families loss and the Kroger family loss.
God bless with peace.
