Frederick "Fred"'s Story
Frederick "Fred" M. Zinser, 61, Goshen passed away Feb. 16, at Elkhart Memorial Hospital.
The son of Merrill "Chuck" and Graciella "Gracie" (Belz) Zinser, he was born in Harvey, Illinois, Aug. 19, 1956. He spent the majority of his childhood in the southern suburbs of Chicago, moving to Rolling Prairie in 1971. He was a 1974 graduate of New Prairie High School and received his bachelor's degree from Goshen College in 1980.
His main occupation was a truck driver, pulling recreational vehicles. He also escorted big machinery and transported expedited freight. Fred enjoyed his time working at the Goshen College radio station and being a disc jockey for WFRN. During the last few years, he enjoyed dressing as Santa Claus to entertain people.
He is best remembered for his great sense of humor and sharp wit. He loved animals, adopting several traumatized dogs and giving them a loving home. He was very generous and caring. He was a classroom assistant at Waterford Elementary School, reading stories to the students every week.
He was preceded in death by his mother.
He is survived by his father; sister, Grace (Bob) Lotter, Columbia City; nephew, Brian (Jen) Lotter, Derwood, Maryland; niece, Gwenn (Zeena Abdi) Lotter, Bayside, New York; great-niece, Verona Lotter; twin great-nephews, Julian and Luca Galano; and a loving church family at People's Bible Church in rural Benton.
Following Fred's wishes, there will be no calling or service.
