Fanny E. Mast

Fanny Mast was a woman who brought just the right amount of spice to life. She loved having friends and family empty her cans of peaches, pickles and beets. She believed life was too short to save the good china for special occasions.
Christmas and gingerbread cookies were some of her favorite things, and she happily told anyone who would listen how to make sure you had just the right amount of sugar in your cup of tea.
Fanny loved being surrounded by family - she was "Grandma" to 14 who never tired of her hugs and time around her table, and she was "Oma" to 15 great-grandchildren.
She spoke her mind freely ... and sometimes regretted it, but generally preferred to look ahead rather than dwell on the past.
Fanny was born March 19, 1934, in Goshen.
She enjoyed traveling to see new places and visit family - especially in Oregon and Nebraska, but she quite happily made Goshen her home for more than 85 years.
In mid-2016, Fanny was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer; she received treatment for this through February 2019.
Fanny relied on a strong faith to lift her up throughout her life and assured friends and family that she was ready to meet her Maker.
She was at home when she passed away in the early morning hours of March 23, 2019.
Fanny married Henry Mast on July 22, 1956, and he survives.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Barbara Bontrager; a daughter, Rebecca; and a great-grandson, Jayce. Her sister, Vera, and brother, LeRoy, have also passed away.
She is survived by their children and hers, Roy Mast, Barb Schlegel, Grace Carpenter, Jo Taylor, Fred Mast, John Mast and Kay Bigler, along with a sister-in-law, Alma Bontrager, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Fanny was an active member at Waterford Mennonite Church, where a Celebration of Life is scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 27.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 26, at Yoder Culp Funeral Home.
Memorials may be given to Bethany Christian Schools.
