Edna C. Sampson, 87, of Columbia City, died at 10:14 a.m. Friday, March 2, 2018 at Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne.
She was born Dec. 17, 1930 in Centreville, Michigan a daughter of the late Clemence and Anna Miller. Her formative years were spent in rural Centreville where she attended the Truckenmiller School.
In 1959, she moved to Whitley County, Indiana. In 1982 she moved to Columbia City.
She began her work career waitressing and cleaning homes. She then went to work for the former Frank's Greenhouse in Columbia City for 17½ years and then Our Compliments for five years.
While raising her children, she served as a den mother for the Cub Scouts of America. She enjoyed both flower and vegetable gardening and loved watching birds. She had a pet cockatiel. She had a vast collection of salt and pepper shakers she collected over the years.
She is survived by three children, Rick A. (Pam) Sampson, Columbia City, Linda D. (Paul) Barkman, St. Joe, and Jerry W. Sampson, Florida; three grandchildren; and a brother, John Miller, Centreville, Michigan.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Albert Smith and Lawrence E. Sampson; five brothers, Edward, Amos, Ervin, Levi and Menno Miller; and two sisters, Mattie Miller and Amanda Bontreger.
The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. Burial will be in the South Park Annex Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Preferred memorials can be made to the Church of the Nazarene, Columbia City.
