Dorothy's Story

Dorothy Carpenter, 85, Millersburg, died at 4:20 p.m. Thursday, July 13, at her home.
She was born Jan. 29, 1932, in New Paris, to Walter and Gladys (Blue) Hoshaw.
She married Roy L. Carpenter Nov. 8, 1958. He passed away July 29, 2009.
Surviving are twin sons, the Rev. Richard Carpenter, Millersburg, and Ronald (Susan) Carpenter, Goshen; daughter, Debra (David) Parcell, Goshen; grandchildren, Rebecca Smuts and Jim, Erik, Lauren and Emily Parcell; and great-grandchildren, Aydian, Kathryn, Benjamin, Shannon and Jaxon.
Preceding her in death are her parents; sister, Mildred Geiger; and a brother, Lloyd Hoshaw.
Dorothy was a 1950 graduate of New Paris High School. She worked at Northern Indiana Public Service Company and Martin's Feed Mill, then as a secretary/bookkeeper at Carpenter's Benton Mill.
She was a charter member of the Friends and Neighbors Extension Homemakers Club and attended Harvest Community Church.
Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday, July 16, and one hour prior to the 3 p.m. service Monday, July 17, all at Harvest Community Church, 17285 C.R. 34, Goshen. Steve Chupp, former pastor of Harvest Community Church, will officiate.
Burial will follow at Rock Run Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Gideons International.
