Doris Mae Hostetler, 103, of Orrville, died Tuesday, Dec. 12, at Brenn-Field Nursing Center in Orrville, following a period of declining health.
Doris was born Jan. 10, 1914, in Wadsworth, Ohio, to the late Ira and Laura (Kreider) Newcomer, and graduated from Wadsworth in 1932.
She married Marvin E. Hostetler Jan. 24, 1935, and was a dedicated wife and mother to three sons. Marvin died in 2008.
She was involved in the family dairy farm and supported Marvin's ministry at Hi-Way Chapel in East Greenville. She also worked as a nurse's aide for Apple Creek Developmental Center for 11 years, retiring in 1978, and volunteered for many years at the local Thrift and Gift/Global Treasures store.
Doris was a member of Martins Mennonite Church, where she was a member of Women's Sewing Circle, and was also a member of the Orrville-Dalton Jolly Neighbors Homemakers Club. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, gardening, baking and especially spending time with her children and grandchildren, who loved her molasses cookies.
Surviving are two sons, Duane (Theresa) Hostetler, Goshen, and Jerald (Betty) Hostetler, Orrville; 10 grandchildren, Cheryl (Eric) Shaver, Millersburg, Robert (Tammy) Hostetler, Orrville, Barbara (Steve) Magier, Orrville, Dan (Jeni) Hostetler, Orrville, Dawn (Dave) Taylor, Detroit, Michigan, Sandy (Charlie) Taylor, Tifton, Georgia, Arlene (Jim) Schrock, Goshen, Jolene (Doug) VonGunten, Goshen, Sheri (Nathan) Badertscher, Orrville, and Michael (Rebecca) Hostetler, Orrville; 20 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Marvin, she was preceded in death by a son, Dean Hostetler; brothers, Elban and Floyd Newcomer; sister, Gladys Fisher; and an infant great-granddaughter.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 16, at Martins Mennonite Church, 13332 Church Road, Orrville, with Pastor Shawn Hilliard officiating.
Burial will take place at Martins Mennonite Cemetery in Orrville.
Friends may call on Saturday at the church from 9:30 to 11 a.m. prior to the service.
