Donald J. LeCount, 89, of Nappanee, died at 5:07 p.m., Thursday, Dec/ 22, 2016 at Miller's Merry Manor, Wakarusa.
Donald was born April 26, 1927 in Ligonier, Indiana to Donald D. and Jane (Burkhart) LeCount.
Donald graduated from Syracuse High School. He moved to the Nappanee area in 1964. The LeCount family was one of the first pioneer families in the Syracuse Lake Wawasee area. As a teenager he worked for Colonel Elli Lilly on the Lilly Estate and became good friends of the colonel. For many years he was a carpenter in the Syracuse area, he also worked for Fairmont Homes and Holiday Rambler in the engineering department.
He was a WWII Navy veteran serving in the Pacific Theatre, including Guam. He also was stationed at Port Waniemi, California. In retirement he served as a volunteer at Family Christian Development Center.
He is survived by his first wife, Doris Frevert Amstutz, Leesburg; four sons, Don (Kathy) LeCount, Leesburg, Richard (granddaughter Holly LeCount Craft) LeCount, Syracuse, Charles (Marilyn) LeCount, Smeltville, ID, Glen (Jamie) LeCount, Jewell, Iowa; stepdaughter, Sharon (Ronald) Hughes; 15 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren; sister, Sue Priest, Cape Canaveral, Florida; brothers, Robert LeCount, Merrit Island, Florida and Brooke (Loretta) Black, Indianapolis.
He was preceded in death by his second wife, Maxine Warren LeCount, a step-daughter, Sandy Crilow; sisters, Jean Kern, Barbara Gladioux, and Sharon Strieby.
Memorial services with military rites will be at 3 pm. Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee. Family and friends may call one hour prior to the service. Pastors Harlan Steffen and Brad Cox from Wawasee Lakeside Chapel will officiate.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Family Christian Development Center in Nappanee.
Arrangements are with Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee.
