Delbert "Smokey"'s Story

Delbert "Smokey" Schmucker Jr., 89, New Paris, died at 4:05 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 5, at Goshen Hospital.
He was born April 3, 1928, in Goshen, to Delbert and Gertrude (Hull) Schmucker Sr.
On April 29, 1948, he married Gladys (Snoke) Schmucker. She passed away Jan. 9, 1995.
He then married Jane (Boyer) Schmucker March 4, 1996.
Surviving are his wife, Jane, New Paris; stepchildren, Kenneth Swoveland, Robin Mast, Kimberly Croy; three stepgrandchildren; and two grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Earl J. Schmucker; and step-son-in-law, Roger Croy.
Delbert was the owner and operator of Smokey Bait, Tackle No. 1 Stop, Pierceton Bait and Tackle Shop and of Smokey Drive Inn, Middlebury, restaurant in 1955.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 8, with a funeral service at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, all at Rieth-Rohrer-Ehret Funeral Home, 311 S. Main St., Goshen.
Burial will follow at Oakridge Cemetery, Goshen.
