Charles Russell Wortinger

Charles Russell Wortinger, 70, Goshen, Indiana, passed peacefully March 15.
Chuck was born to Junior LeRoy "Knute" Wortinger and Arlois Mae (Bleile) Sept. 18, 1948, in Goshen, Indiana. He graduated from Goshen High School in 1968.
He married Bonnie Kay Steria May 28, 1972, and together they raised two children.
Chuck is survived by his wife of 46 years and leaves as his legacy two children, Brandy Wales (Chad Wales) and Sara Wortinger (James O'Neill). He also leaves to cherish his memory two siblings, Paula (Mike) McKee and Larry (Zoe Ann) Wortinger, and his grandbaby, Emerson Wales.
Anyone who knew Chuck would agree that he was a fiercely loyal man. He was as loyal to his family, friends and pets as he was to his sports teams and beer choices.
His devotion to his family became more evident than ever five years ago when his wife suffered a massive brain aneurysm.
While many men may have become distant from their wives or families after such a catastrophic event, Chuck only grew more committed to caring for his family and spent every single day by his wife's side. His positive attitude, nonstop jokes and unwavering love remained a bright light, even in the darkest moments.
In the fall of 2017, Chuck was diagnosed with Stage 4 prostate cancer, but he didn't let this stop him from living and loving his life.
A new resident of Denver, Chuck spent the last year and a half of his life welcoming a granddaughter into the world, golfing, attending sporting events, listening to Bob Seger, reminiscing with old friends, making new friends and telling stories of a well-lived life.
His daughters will remain forever grateful for the things he taught them about life, love, commitment to family and having a good time.
Chuck's family will raise their Coors Lights and cheers to his life Wednesday, March 20, at his favorite Denver saloon, The Buckhorn Exchange.
A celebration of his life will follow this summer in Goshen.

We love our memories of trips to New England and multiple vacations to Mackinaw with Chuck and Bonnie. One Memorial day we were sitting in the upper level of the Fort Restaurant in Mackinaw watching the parade. All if a sudden a huge wind blew through outside. Hats were blowing of the heads if the participants. After the parade, we went outside and quickly realized the temperature had dropped from 85 to 50. We had to hit the stores and by complete new wardrobes for the weekend. Only shorts and short sleeved shirts had been packed!
