C. Joseph Martin, 85, Goshen, died at 2 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 21, at Greencroft Goshen Health Care.
He was born Aug. 3, 1931, in Durand, Michigan, to H. Ward and Bernice I. (Benton) Martin.
He married Shirley Joan (Pletcher) Martin May 5, 1951.
Surviving are his wife, Shirley, Goshen; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death are his parents; daughter, Starley M. Tomchik; son, Scott A. Martin; brothers, Jerry L. Martin and James L. Martin; and a half-brother, H. Ward Martin.
Joseph was a pastor, counselor and college professor at Davis & Elkins College, Elkins, West Virginia, Bethel College, Mishawaka, King College, Bristol, Tennessee, and Taylor University, Fort Wayne. He earned a bachelor's degree in biblical literature; master's degree in Christian education, theology and special education; and a PhD in education and ministry.
He was a member of Brenneman Memorial Missionary Church, Goshen, and The Chapel, Fort Wayne.
Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 24, and one hour prior to the 10 a.m. service Saturday, Feb. 25, all at Rieth-Rohrer-Ehret Funeral Home, 311 S. Main St., Goshen. The Rev. Gene Hartman will officiate.
Burial will follow at Yellow Creek Cemetery.
