Bernard "Rex" Hagen, 89, formerly of Ligonier, Indiana, left this world on his own terms surrounded by family at his Florida home on Anna Maria Island, Florida, June 17.
Rex was born in Morocco, Indiana, to Ross and Elizabeth Hagen June 29, 1927. There he married Helen Stone May 13, 1951.
Rex proudly served in the Navy during World War II and the Air Force during the Korean conflict.
A self-made business owner, he started Superior Sample Company in 1957 in Ligonier, Indiana.
He enjoyed traveling the world, playing and watching tennis, golf, motorcycles and fast cars.
He was a graduate and lifelong supporter of Purdue University, a member of many fraternal organizations including the Moose, Elks, Shriners, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen; sisters, Gracie Rice and Betty Kessler; and brothers, John and Vic Hagen.
He is survived by his daughter, Nancy (Rich) Stage of Big Sky, Montana, and son, Mark (Jeanna) Hagen of Cromwell, Indiana, along with five grandchildren.
A graveside service will take place in Indiana at a date yet to be determined.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Community Center of Anna Maria Island, 407 Magnolia Ave., Anna Maria, FL 34216.
Griffith-Cline Funeral and Cremation Services, Bradenton, assisted the family with arrangements.
