Alvin "Jack" J. Schlemmer, 82, Ligonier, passed away Monday, July 10, at 7:15p.m. at his home in Ligonier, surrounded by family.
He was born Jan. 26, 1935, to Carl R. and Nellie G. (Barkley) in Noble County.
On Jan. 7, 1956, Jack married Maria Elena Jordan in Douglas, Arizona. She survives.
Jack had a lot of talent along with numerous skills. Prior to self-employment as a woodworker, he worked for many years with Paul Becker & Sons as an electrician and plumber. He went on to work in Goshen for Johnson Controls in the maintenance department.
He served his country honorably in the United States Army and was a member of the American Legion Post 243 in Ligonier.
The West Noble School Corporation was fortunate to have him sit on their board for many years. The visitors center in Ligonier was happy to have him be a part of their team. Jack was a true pillar in the Ligonier community and played an active role as an Eucharistic minister and lector at St. Patrick's Church in Ligonier. Many behind the scenes activities were how Jack spent his time creating memories. Whether you needed a tool to borrow, a piece of furniture refinished or electrical work completed, Jack was always present to lend a helping hand, a true "Jack" of all trades. He will be missed by so many.
