Alton "Leo" Smith, 83, Goshen, passed away Wednesday, June 7, at The Maples at Waterford Crossing.
He was born Dec. 24, 1933, in Albertville, Alabama, to Alton and Lula Bell (Stewart) Smith.
On Dec. 22, 1956, he married Wilma J. McGriff in Dutton, Alabama. She died Dec. 25, 2014.
Survivors include two sons, Ric A. (Cynthia) Smith, Muscatine, Iowa, and G. Stuart (Beth) Smith, Warsaw; four grandchildren, Jason (Taylor) Hendrix, New Paris, Justin (Tara) Smith, Pierceton, Hannah (Dave) Braasch, Fridley, Minnesota, and Emma (Rick) Stammer, Des Moines, Iowa; and six great-grandchildren.
Along with his parents and his wife, Leo was preceded in death by three sisters, Billie Jo Smith, Elizabeth Jane Smith and Thelma Dean Smith.
Leo was a member of First Baptist Church, Goshen, and worked as a plant manager at Goshen Rubber.
Friends may call Monday, June 12, beginning at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church, Goshen, where an 11 a.m. memorial service will be conducted. The Rev. Dr. Greggory Lanzen, the Rev. Jim Shrock, and Leo's grandson, Justin Smith, will officiate.
According to his wishes, burial of his cremated remains will take place at New Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery, Fyffe, Alabama, at a later time.
Memorial gifts may be directed to the church's Deacons' Fund.
